Pre-conference
This year we organize a pre-conference as part of our 6th Biennial Conference in order to present and disseminate the results of a European Project that was entirely devoted on the process of validation of integration competences for refugees. The project is called VIC. VIC stands for ‘Validating Integration Competences of Refugees’ and was a two-year European project funded by the Programme Erasmus+ and co-ordinated by the German partner DVV–Deutscher Volkshochschulverband. The project was implemented by a consortium of six partners from five European countries: Germany, Italy, Greece, France and Austria, between December 2017 and November 2019. The project developed an approach to measure the effectiveness of the educational offers that have been put in place with the aim at easing immigrants’ pathways to integration into the labour market and society in large, on the one hand, and to assess their impact on the individual integration competences of the immigrants, on the other hand. For this purpose, VIC aimed to:
The results of the project include the following:
All participants to the 6th Biennial Conference are welcome to participate in the pre-conference workshops and contribute with their skills and expertise in the panel discussion.
The pre-conference programme preceeds the main conference programme that begins on the 16th of October 2019 at 15:00. The pre-conference starts at 09:30. Participants can register in both events (VIC pre-conference and ReNAdET 6th Biennial Conference). They will receive separate certificates for each event.
- Collect the varying objectives of integration programmes across Europe and distil from them an operational working definition of “integration competence”
- Provide adult educators working with refugee immigrants with tools to promote, plan, actively develop and validate integration competences among the target group
- Implement these tools in various different types of educational programmes as listed above
- Carefully evaluate their feasibility, adequacy and impact
The results of the project include the following:
- A common definition of the competence set “integration competences”
- A blended learning training course for providers of integration measures on how to use validation as a means to stimulate reflection on and the acquisition of integration competences
- National pilots in all partner countries
- Report on the feasibility of the approach and its impact
- Manual / guidelines on how to use the VIC approach
- Good practice examples from the national pilots in terms of using validation in the integration measures
